“Jaden started playing tennis just last year as a way to hang out with his friends,” said coach Tyler Baca. “What began as something fun quickly turned into a real passion for him. Coming into his junior year with no experience, all he had was determination and a love for the game. He set a big goal for himself  — to become the team’s number one singles player and even take a set off his coach.

“Through a lot of hard work, extra practice, and pure competitive drive, he made that goal a reality. Now our number one singles player, Jaden has stepped into that role with confidence. He kicked off the season with strong sweeps and big wins, showing he earned that top spot. Watching him go from brand new to the sport to a smart, skilled competitor has been incredible. He’s not just talented, he understands the game, knows how to adjust, and competes with confidence.”

Elyjiah Velasco is in his second year as a varsity student-athlete for the boys golf team.

“Elyjiah has really excelled, both in the classroom and out on the course,” said coach Travis Hodge. “Academically, he is currently on an A-G track and has a 3.9 cumulative GPA. On the course, Elyjiah has made tremendous strides in a relatively short time. After serious injuries on the football field, he turned to golf roughly a year and a half ago. Last season he made our top 6 and was one of our top players when the season concluded. He comes into this season as one of our top players and hopes to lead our team to contend for the league championship.”

Christopher Pike “has been an incredible asset to our boys varsity volleyball team,” said coach Miguel Barajas. “His work ethic is unmatched, and he truly embodies everything a coach could hope for in an athlete. He shows up every day ready to compete, improve, and lead by example.

“Christopher is coachable, disciplined, resilient, and deeply committed to the success of the team. He consistently pushes himself and those around him to be better, setting the standard through his actions. His dedication to the program and the culture we strive to build does not go unnoticed.

“We are beyond grateful to have Christopher represent our team, and while we will miss his presence, we are excited to see all that he will accomplish in the future. The boys volleyball team will always be behind you, supporting with pride and confidence as you pursue the next chapter of your journey and strive for continued success.”

Grace Asbury has been named Athlete of the Month for girls swimming after an outstanding start to the season. At the team’s first dual meet, she earned two CIF consideration times in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke — an impressive accomplishment that reflects her hard work and preparation.

“As one of our team captains, Grace leads by example with her dedication, commitment, and strong work ethic,” said coach Felicia Asbury. “She consistently brings teammates together, fosters a positive attitude, and helps create a supportive and competitive team atmosphere. We are proud of her achievements and the leadership she brings to our program.”

Gavin Stephens has been named Athlete of the Month for boys swimming after an impressive performance at the team’s first dual meet, where he earned his first CIF cut of the season in the 100 backstroke.

“He posted strong preseason times and has carried that momentum into competition, and we’re excited to see what he accomplishes this year,” Asbury said. “As a four-year swimmer in our program, Gavin has been a consistent leader and a key contributor to our team’s success. His experience, dedication, and commitment continue to make a positive impact on Liberty swimming.”

Julianna Larson represents the softball team this month.

“As our senior third baseman, Julianna leads with heart, resilience, and confidence,” said coach Nichole Smith. “She sets the standard through her work ethic, her encouragement of her teammates, and the way she carries herself, both on and off the field. Her impact goes far beyond the game, and her leadership will leave a lasting mark on our program. We are so proud of the example she continues to be for our team.”

Girls lacrosse player Kimora Williams “demonstrates the heart and grit of a true athlete,” said coach Bradley Loven. “She absolutely shines in both athletic and leadership opportunities, consistently rising as a young leader of women in multiple sports.

“Kimora leads by example through her quiet strength and unwavering commitment to her teammates, as well as the competition at hand. Her positive attitude, discipline, respect and selflessness have made a lasting impact on our team culture. She elevates those around her simply through her work ethic and character.  We are so thankful to have Kimora as part of our program and grateful for the legacy that she leaves for coming seasons!”
