In Loving Memory of Leon Motte
July 12, 1940 – August 24, 2026
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of the Motte Family patriarch and founder of the Motte Historical Museum Barn, Leon Motte.
Leon was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend. And while he was a man of many passions and talents, everything paled in comparison to the pride he took in being a farmer.
The Motte Museum rides on the shoulders of Leon’s dreams of community and his deep love for his roots. We are heartbroken at the loss of this giant.
To every guest who visited the Barn during Leon’s lifetime – whether as a museum or, long before that, as a farm stand – we thank you. Please know, he did it all for you.
In honor of Leon’s passing, the Motte Museum will be closed Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 29–30.
We will also be flying the Barn’s flag at half-staff in his memory.
