Two arrested on felony warrants during Menifee PD DUI checkpoint

A DUI checkpoint on May 16 did not result in any DUI arrests, but two individuals were arrested for having felony warrants, police said.

The checkpoint screened 1,274 vehicles from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. near the intersection of Newport Road and Winterhawk Road, according to a Menifee Police Department news release. Two people were arrested on unspecified criminal charges. In addition, one driver was cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or suspended.

“Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired,” the press release stated.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
