Menifee 24/7 is pleased to honor Athletes of the Month for November at Paloma Valley High School. Honorees were selected by the coaches of their respective sports and were recognized with a presentation of certificates and photo opportunity on campus.
Matilyn Knowlton is the goalkeeper for the girls water polo team. She had 46 blocked shots and 8 assists in November.
“She also blocked several 5-meter shots, which is incredibly difficult,” said coach Joe Ellett. “She does a great job as a leader.”
Jaelen Dixon of the boys wrestling team went undefeated in November. Melissa Moreno of the girls wrestling team also went undefeated, and she won the championship of the Girls on Fire Tournament.
Samuel Camarillo of the boys soccer team “has been an exemplary example as a student athlete,” said coach Carlos Duran. “Sam is a team player, selfless in every aspect, but most importantly, he consistently carries a 4.0 GPA. His presence is immediately felt when he’s on or off the pitch. There is a reason he is one of our varsity captains as a junior, which is not the norm for our program.”
Winnie Madut of the girls basketball team helped lead the team in the Temescal Canyon Tournament, scoring 27 points in a win over Elsinore and 13 points — including clutch shooting — in a win against Canyon Springs, earning All-Tournament honors.
Boys basketball player Anthony Medrano “is a model student-athlete maintaining a high GPA and fully committed to his team,” said his coach. “His work ethic has been something that stood out the most this year. We see the growth in Anthony and he has really stepped up to the plate.
“As a starter, Anthony brings toughness on defense and has amazing ability to shoot the ball. He’s not the most vocal, but his character and work ethic speaks volumes.”
Girls soccer player Taylor Dannenberg, who is coming off a major ACL injury, “leads our backline with confidence and composure, stepping up especially when our numbers were low,” said coach Katelyn Fregosi. “She pushed through every game and made a difference on the field with her leadership.”
