Menifee Mayor Ricky Estrada presented a gift to the City of Menifee on behalf of the U.S. Air Force last week – an American flag that flew during hostile fire overseas.
Estrada, who returned from Air Force deployment earlier this month, presented the flag during a dedication ceremony at the May 20 City Council meeting. The flag is displayed in a case with a plaque that states it was flown during Project Inherent Resolve. It is signed by flight commanders, pilots, weapons systems personnel and airmen.
Project Inherent Resolve was launched in 2014 in Iraq and Syria. U.S. forces in this remain project remain active in Kuwait, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.
“This flag few on a C130 aircraft in the face of hostile fire,” Estrada said. “It is a gift to the people of Menifee.”
The flag will be prominently displayed at a place to be determined.
