Heritage High raced out to a huge lead in the first quarter and never looked back Monday night in scoring an 82-55 victory over Pacific, breaking the school record for the longest boys basketball win streak in school history.
The win was the seventh straight for the Patriots, who haven’t lost since a season-opening defeat against Corona Nov. 17. The streak includes an overtime win over Tahquitz on Dec. 4. Heritage will try to extend that streak Wednesday at Orange Vista.
This one wasn’t a contest after the opening minutes. The Patriots jumped out to a 23-4 lead, prompting a Pacific timeout. When Kendall Sampson scored in the last minute of the first quarter, Heritage led 30-6. The Patriots’ lead was 30-9 after the first quarter and 55-20 at halftime.
Quentin Bailey had a huge game for the Patriots, scoring 31 points with 18 rebounds. Diego Mekonsto had 15 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Sampson finished with 11 points, 5 assists and 7 steals.
