Menifee Police Department officers cited 11 drivers for hands-free cell phone violations and 28 others for dangerous driving behaviors during a special operation on Nov. 10.
“Despite repeated efforts to warn drivers about the hands-free cell phone law, some drivers continue to use their phones while operating a vehicle,” Chief Chris Karrer of the Menifee Police Department said in a press release. “Our ultimate goal is to change behaviors that help make our roads safer.”
Violating the hands-free law for a second time within 36 months of a prior conviction for the same offense will result in a point being added to a driver’s record. Menifee PD asks drivers needing to make or answer a call to pull over to a safe parking spot. It is suggested that phones be silenced or put out of reach before driving.
