Keontae Greenberry and Samantha Barraza are among the honored athletes at Liberty High School.
Menifee 24/7 is pleased to honor Athletes of the Month for September at Liberty High School. Honorees were selected by the coaches of their respective sports and were recognized with a presentation of certificates and photo opportunity on campus.
Junior football player Keontae Greenberry is a leading tackler on the team and had a crucial 40-yard pick 6 against Hemet. “Keontae plays football with a lot of energy and passion and his style of play is very contagious,” said coach Adam Contreras.
Water polo player Chase Mankin “embodies everything it means to be a student athlete,” said his coach, Hailey Badham. “He actively participates in many different activities. He demonstrates determination, leadership and commitment.
“The boys team voted Chase as our team captain this year. He leads by example both in and out of the pool. He continues to bring a positive attitude and strong work ethic to every practice, game, and team event. His role as team captain has made a noticeable positive impact on our team. He is the exact example of an athlete that we want our younger athletes to learn from and set the standards and expectations.”
Girls volleyball player Samantha Barraza “is an incredible athlete and leader on and off of the court,” said coach Morgan Spencer. “She balances high-level courses and is involved with several things on campus in addition to volleyball, including DECA. She is incredibly compassionate and brings her teammates up at practice, at games and at school. Her leadership and incredible sportsmanship brings so much to the girls volleyball program, and I am honored to offer her the Athlete of the Month!”
Girls cross country runner Diana Flores was selected for her outstanding performances and dedication to the team. She finished first overall at a Raincross Conference league meet, leading Liberty to a first-place team finish. At the Woodbridge Invitational, she ran a personal best of 17:52.2, becoming the second-fastest runner in Liberty girls cross country history.
“Diana is a true testament to hard work and dedication, consistently pushing herself to improve,” said coach Andrew Ellis. “We are proud of her accomplishments and the example she sets for her teammates.”
Ethan Wall was selected for his impressive growth during his freshman boys cross country season.
“He has quickly moved up the ranks, showing determination and a drive to improve,” Ellis said. “At the Woodbridge Invitational, he ran a 16:48, becoming the fastest freshman in Liberty High School history. At the Raincross Conference league meet, he finished as Liberty’s fourth scoring runner and placed 42nd overall. We are proud of Ethan’s hard work and excited to see him continue to grow.”
