Menifee police are investigating a large group of e-bike riders following an incident near Menifee Road and La Piedra Road last week.
Videos circulating on social media showed a large group of e-bike riders in the area as police responded. Police Community Engagement Specialist Chase Coburn said the response was prompted by a call from a community member and was not part of a planned e-bike enforcement operation.
Officers attempted to safely contact the riders several times but did not want to create additional risks for the riders or other motorists, Coburn said.
“After approximately 45 minutes, officers determined the safest course of action was to discontinue following the group and instead focus on investigating their actions and identifying the individuals involved,” Coburn said.
No arrests have been made and no bikes have been impounded in connection with the incident, Coburn said.
Police are continuing to investigate what Coburn described as dangerous riding behavior and are working to identify the specific riders involved.
