The Asbury sisters continued their success in Wednesday’s CIF-SS Division 3 swimming prelims at Mt. San Antonio College.
Gwen and Grace Asbury each qualified for Friday’s CIF finals in both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Gwen placed second in the 200 free and third in the 500 free. Grace finished ninth in the 200 free and 11th in the 500 free.
In addition, both sisters competed on two relay teams that also qualified for the finals. In the 200 freestyle relay, they joined Kylie Kaas and Tessa Whitford. In the 400 freestyle relay, they joined Celeste Hernandez and Whitford.
No Liberty boys qualified for the finals, but the 400 freestyle relay team finished its season with a new school record.
“I’m incredibly proud of this team and everything they have accomplished this season,” said coach Felicia Asbury. “Just to qualify for CIF is a big achievement. They broke 13 school records this year and that in itself is a testament to the growth and hard work they have put in this season. I’m excited for finals on Friday and looking forward to some fast swims.”
Paloma Valley swimmer Matilyn Knowlton will compete in the Division 4 finals on Thursday after qualifying in Tuesday’s prelims. She will swim the 100 backstroke.
In addition, the 4×50 freestyle relay team of Bella Coronel, Danica Munoz, Sienna Pospisil, and Kaylee Gutierrez qualified for the finals.
