Turnwall places fourth in NCAA wrestling finals, earns All-American status

Karissa Turnwall celebrates her victory in the quarterfinals.

Former Paloma Valley High School wrestler Karissa Turnwall placed fourth and earned All-American status for the third straight year in the recent NCAA Women’s Wrestling Championships in Coralville, Iowa.

Wrestling at 117 pounds for Emmanuel University of Franklin Springs, Georgia, Turnwall advanced to the semifinals. She lost a 9-4 decision there and went into the third-place match, where she eventually finished fourth. She entered the tournament as the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the nation in her weight class.

At Paloma Valley, Turnwall placed second in the CIF State meet in 2023. She won two CIF-SS individual championships and was on two CIF-SS team champions.
