The Liberty High softball team scored 10 runs in the second inning on the way to a 19-5 victory over Heritage, improving its record to 6-2.
The Bison finished with 20 hits. Lily Mathews went 3 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Cameryn Rutkoff also had a big game with 2 hits, 4 RBIs and a home run. Yasmine Lopez also homered for Liberty.
The Bison will play at Linfield Christian on Wednesday.
Paloma Valley’s softball team scored 2 insurance runs in the top of the seventh and held on for a 3-1 win over Valley View, improving to 9-2 on the season. Wildcats pitcher Kaydence Koepsell allowed just 1 run on 6 hits.
Maya Lawrence and Laura Liera each had 2 hits. Lawrence also homered.
In baseball, visiting Arlington High scored the game’s only run in the top of the seventh inning Friday to defeat Liberty, 1-0.
Carter Johnson’s solo home run made the difference for Arlington. The  Lions had just 4 hits to Liberty’s 7, but that was good enough to win.
Nate Wellen and Alex Arteaga had 2 hits each for the Bison. Martin Naranjo, who pitched 4 innings in relief of starter Caleb Lozano, took the loss. Liberty is 0-4 this season.
Van-Michael Sparks and Wade Johnson had 2 hits each for the Heritage baseball team, but the Patriots dropped a 5-3 decision at Moreno Valley. Brennon Hendricks pitched 4 innings and Wade Johnson 2 for the Patriots, who are 4-4.
Paloma Valley gave up 5 runs in the second inning and couldn’t recover in a 6-1 loss at Poly. The Wildcats finished with just 5 hits.
Heritage’s boys volleyball team outlasted Citrus Hill in 5 sets for a 3-2 victory, improving its record to 9-7.
