Latest on McCall Square: Stater Bros. plans finally submitted

Construction of a Stater Bros. market on the northwest corner of McCall Boulevard and Menifee Road should start this summer, a city official said.

Owners of the long-awaited anchor to the McCall Square center – and what would be the first grocery store in the Heritage Lake community – recently submitted plans to the City of Menifee for approval, said Communications Director Phil Southard.

“They expect to start grading by June,” Southard said.

The center already includes a 7-Eleven with gas pumps, a Jersey Mike’s sandwich shop, Chipotle’s, a Starbucks, a self-storage facility, and a nail salon.

Heritage Lake residents have been asking for such amenities for years – especially a grocery store. The Rancon Group first announced plans to build a commercial center on that site in July 2014.

Stater Bros. has been mentioned as the future anchor tenant for several years, but that corner of the center remains the only undeveloped part. Once completed, it would become the fourth Stater Bros. market in Menifee – but at least there will finally be one for the highly populated community in the northeast part of town.
