A City of Menifee spokesman confirmed that Costco has applied for both a store and a distribution warehouse at two different locations in Menifee – while adding that both applications are “in the early stages and would be considered in the due diligence phase.”
Phil Southard, Communications Director for the city, was not in a position to give any details because the projects have not been approved through the city’s development process, which is still in the study and research phase. But Southard’s comments about the proposed locations of the two sites matches what someone claiming to be a Costco employee has stated on social media.
Southard previously confirmed to Menifee 24/7 that the store location is proposed for a site just south of the Countryside Marketplace at Haun Road and La Piedra Road. Today he also confirmed that the application for the “distribution facility” is for the northeast corner of Menifee Road and Matthews Road, just north of the Heritage Lake community.
That would place the distribution warehouse in the Menifee Valley Specific Plan, which was described in a previous news article here. The warehouse would be adjacent to homes and a school that is planned for the southeast portion of the mixed-use development.
Again, nothing has been approved at this point. These projects are in the very early stages of the application process.
