Paloma Valley’s baseball team avenged a recent loss to Liberty and moved past the Bison in the Ivy League standings with a 7-2 victory on Friday.
The Wildcats (6-6 overall, 4-2 in league) pounded out 10 hits. Christian Stephens had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Bolt Smearer had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Clinton Glass also had 2 hits. Pitchers Glass and Holden Pettit combined on an 8-hitter.
Liberty (3-5, 3-3) was led offensively by Matthew Schaeffer and Nate Wellen, each going 2 for 4 at the plate.
Elsewhere, Heritage’s league record fell to 0-6 (4-9 overall) in a 6-2 loss to Arlington. The Patriots had only 3 hits as a team.
The Paloma Valley softball team is now 13-2 overall after beating Moreno Valley 22-2 in its Sunbelt League opener. The Wildcats scored 8 runs in the second inning and 8 more in the third and finished with 18 hits. Players with 2 RBIs included Brooklyn Berni, Felicity Arizala, Laura Liera, and Kennedi McGee. Liera went 3 for 3 and scored a run as well.
On the mound, Kaydence Koepsell Kadie Urban and combined on a 2-hitter. They combined for 11 strikeouts.
Another very successful Palomas Valley team is the girls lacrosse team, which beat Poly 17-0 on Friday, improving its record to 12-2.
