Paloma Valley wrestlers Saldana, Geronimo headed to State meet

Two wrestlers will represent Menifee at the CIF State meet next weekend, and both are from Paloma Valley High School.

Anthony Saldana qualified while wrestling in the CIF Masters boys wrestling meet Friday at Sonora High in La Habra. He will compete in the State meet Thursday through Saturday in Bakersfield.

Wrestling at 132 pounds, Saldana placed fourth.

Two other local boys wrestlers narrowly missed qualifying for the State meet. Paloma Valley’s Brandon Owen placed sixth at 150 pounds and Heritage’s Jacob Dalton placed sixth at 144.

At the girls Masters meet Saturday at Sonora High, Paloma Valley’s Reynalyn Geronimo placed second at 100 pounds to advance to the State meet.

Geronimo reached the finals with a 7-4 decision over Chaminade’s Olivia Munson in the semifinals. Munson came into the meet ranked No. 4 in the state and No. 8 in the nation.

In the finals, Geronimo lost to Kyle-Ann Thach of Roosevelt.
