A remarkable program is quietly shaping the next generation of leaders right here in our community. The Paloma Valley High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) is transforming young men and women into disciplined, service-minded citizens prepared to lead with character and purpose.

To date, Paloma Valley’s NJROTC cadets have contributed more than 2,100 cumulative hours of community service to Menifee and surrounding areas. Whether supporting local events, assisting community initiatives, or representing our city at competitions, these cadets consistently demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to something greater than themselves.

On Feb. 21, the Wildcat Battalion competed in the Southern California and Arizona State Drill, Fitness, and Academic Championship — an event featuring the top 16 NJROTC units out of 58 schools across the region. After an intense and highly competitive meet, Paloma Valley earned an impressive third-place overall finish.

When asking the Battlecat Drill Team Commander, Gabriel Dunn how he felt about the results, he stated, “The third-place finish doesn’t reflect the greatness I believe our cadets possess.” The Wildcat Company Commander, Sophia Brown, agrees.

Established at Paloma Valley in 2002, NJROTC was created by Public Law in 1964 (Title 10, U.S. Code, Chapter 102). The program’s mission extends far beyond military awareness. At its core, NJROTC emphasizes citizenship, leadership development, academic achievement, and community service. Classroom instruction is reinforced through hands-on experiences including drill competitions, physical fitness events, academic meets, visits to naval installations, and extensive community involvement.

At Paloma Valley, NJROTC promotes:

— Patriotism and civic responsibility

— Respect for lawful authority

— Leadership development and personal accountability

— Higher education and career readiness

— Community service and volunteerism

— Personal honor, discipline, and self-reliance

— Physical fitness and a healthy, drug-free lifestyle

Participation in NJROTC provides a structured, supportive, and drug-free environment where students build confidence, resilience, and lasting friendships. Cadets learn that leadership is not about rank, but about responsibility. They discover that discipline creates opportunity. They experience first-hand the pride that comes from serving others and representing their community with excellence.

Menifee has every reason to be proud of these young men and women. We invite the Menifee community to stand behind its future leaders and help the Mighty Wildcat Company continue to represent us with their every endeavor.
