Paloma Valley, Liberty and Heritage high schools saw mixed results in the latest state assessments, with changes in English language arts and mathematics scores compared with the previous school year.
The California Department of Education released the 2025-26 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) results last week, providing a look at how 11th-grade students performed compared with statewide averages.
At Paloma Valley High School, 61.4 percent of students scored Proficient or Advanced in English language arts, down from 64.7 percent last year. Despite the decline, the school remained above the statewide average of 57.4 percent.
Mathematics results also declined, from 25.8 percent to 22.6 percent, compared with the statewide average of 31.9 percent.
Liberty High School saw a decline in English language arts, with 57.4 percent of students scoring Proficient or Advanced, down from 62.4 percent the previous year. The school’s results matched the statewide average.
Mathematics scores improved slightly at Liberty, increasing from 22.2 percent to 23.1 percent, although the school remained below the statewide average.
Heritage High School recorded the lowest proficiency rates among the three schools.
In English language arts, 40.7 percent of students scored Proficient or Advanced, compared with 42.7 percent last year. The result was below the statewide average of 57.4 percent.
Mathematics proficiency at Heritage increased slightly, from 10.9 percent to 12.1 percent, but remained below the statewide average of 31.9 percent.
While English language arts scores declined at all three schools, mathematics results varied. Paloma Valley saw a decrease, while Liberty and Heritage recorded slight improvements.
Statewide, 11th-grade students showed improvement in both subjects. English language arts proficiency increased from 57.0 percent to 57.4 percent, while mathematics rose from 30.5 percent to 31.9 percent.
The CAASPP assessments measure student achievement in English language arts and mathematics in grades three through eight and 11. Results are divided into four achievement levels: Minimal, Developing, Proficient and Advanced.
