Menifee Union School District students performed above statewide averages in third through fifth grades but fell behind in sixth through eighth grades, according to newly released state test scores.
The California Department of Education released the 2025-26 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) results last week, showing how students performed in English language arts and mathematics. The results reflect districtwide performance rather than individual school scores.
Overall, MUSD’s results remained relatively unchanged from the previous school year. In English language arts, 47.9 percent of students scored Proficient or Advanced, compared with 48 percent in 2024-25. Mathematics results were similar, with 38.4 percent scoring Proficient or Advanced, down slightly from 38.6 percent.
Statewide, 49.3 percent of students scored Proficient or Advanced in English language arts, while 38.4 percent did so in mathematics. Both figures increased from the previous year.
While the district’s overall results remained steady, individual grade levels showed more noticeable changes.
Fifth-grade students saw improvements in both subjects. The percentage scoring Proficient or Advanced in English language arts increased from 50.5 percent to 53.8 percent, while mathematics rose from 36.2 percent to 40.4 percent. Both results were above statewide averages.
Fourth-grade students also improved, with 48.5 percent scoring Proficient or Advanced in English language arts, up from 45.5 percent last year. Mathematics increased from 44.2 percent to 46.5 percent.
Third-grade results changed little in English language arts, with 46.7 percent scoring Proficient or Advanced compared with 46.9 percent the previous year. Mathematics increased slightly from 49.7 percent to 50.6 percent.
Sixth grade saw the largest declines in the district.
The percentage scoring Proficient or Advanced in English language arts dropped from 49.55 percent to 42.09 percent, a decrease of 7.46 percentage points. Mathematics also declined, from 36.2 percent to 30.1 percent. Both results were below statewide averages of 48 percent and 37.2 percent, respectively.
Seventh-grade students showed improvement in both subjects, although their scores remained below statewide averages. English language arts increased from 45.2 percent to 47.7 percent, while mathematics rose from 32 percent to 34.5 percent.
Eighth-grade students saw declines in both subjects. English language arts decreased from 50.1 percent to 48.3 percent, while mathematics dropped from 32.6 percent to 29.3 percent. Statewide, 49.5 percent of eighth graders scored Proficient or Advanced in English language arts, compared with 36.3 percent in mathematics.
The CAASPP assessments measure student performance in English language arts and mathematics in grades three through eight and 11. Results are reported across four achievement levels: Minimal, Developing, Proficient and Advanced.
