According to the department, eight drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a valid license or with a suspended or revoked license. An additional 17 drivers were cited for various driving violations.

Police officials said checkpoint locations are selected based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is to improve public safety by deterring impaired driving.

“The Menifee Police Department is 100% committed to preventing, deterring and arresting impaired drivers in Menifee and it will continue to be a top priority,” the department said in a statement.

The department announced that another DUI/driver’s license checkpoint is planned for Sept. 26 as part of its ongoing traffic safety efforts.

Funding for the June checkpoint was provided through a California Highway Patrol Cannabis Grant.
