Menifee’s annual Independence Day Celebration will return Saturday, June 27 with a community parade, live entertainment, family activities and fireworks as residents gather to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
The free event will take place from 5-9:30 p.m. at Wheatfield Park (30627 Menifee Road) in Menifee. Festivities begin with a parade along La Piedra Road and conclude with an extended fireworks show at 9 p.m.
Presented by the City of Menifee in partnership with the Lake Menifee Women’s Club, the celebration continues a tradition that dates back to 1991, when the Women’s club hosted the community’s first Independence Day parade and celebration.
The event is traditionally held on the last Saturday in June, a practice that began when organizers found it was more affordable to schedule fireworks before the July 4 holiday. The tradition continues today.
Following the parade, attendees can enjoy food vendors, craft booths, an expanded Kids Zone with inflatable attractions and interactive activities, a beer garden, stilt walkers, balloon and bubble artists, giveaways and other entertainment.
This year’s event will feature Phat Cat Swinger, an 11-piece big band that will headline the evening before the fireworks show.
“Menifee’s Independence Celebration is one of our community’s most anticipated events and this year is especially meaningful as we celebrate America’s 250th Birthday,” Mayor Ricky Estrada said in a statement. “We invite everyone to join us for an unforgettable night honoring our nation with live entertainment, family fun, and fireworks.”
Parking will be available at Mt. San Jacinto College, with free shuttle service provided throughout the event. La Piedra Road will be closed between Antelope and Menifee roads from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., including all connecting streets.
Menifee TV will also air a special live program titled “Countdown 250,” which includes over 250 minutes of live coverage. Menifee TV can be viewed on Spectrum Channel 1301, Frontier Channel 25, Mediacom Channel 595 and at cityofmenifee.us/menifeetv.
