One driver was arrested for DUI during a DUI enforcement patrol conducted by the Menifee Police Department on June 5.
The department deployed a two-officer DUI enforcement team from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday. During the patrol, officers stopped several drivers for vehicle code violations and issued citations.
“Driving under the influence is dangerous, illegal, and puts every person driving on the roads at risk. Drivers need to understand the dangers of driving impaired,” Sgt. Dan Beare said in a statement. “We are out there and will not hesitate to stop drivers who drive impaired.”
According to the department, drivers arrested for DUI can face significant fines and penalties, as well as a suspended driver’s license.
Police officials also reminded residents that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can affect a person’s ability to drive safely. Drivers are encouraged to read warning labels and follow medication instructions before getting behind the wheel.
The department said that while recreational and medicinal marijuana are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.
The Menifee Police Department said it plans to conduct additional DUI enforcement patrols throughout the year as part of its ongoing efforts to improve roadway safety.
The patrol was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
