The Menifee City Council on Wednesday honored a longtime community volunteer, Tom Merritt, as Citizen of the Month.
Merritt, who moved here in 2006, is recognized around town for his volunteer efforts in many areas, including the Community Cupboard, the local blood bank, and as playing Santa Claus. Council members thanked him for his tireless efforts and his positive attitude in helping to make the city as better place.
“Your big cheer and your commitment to health are appreciated,” said council member Ben Diederich, who nominated Merritt for the award. “I know you don’t do this to be in the limelight, but just to give back. Thanks for all you do.”
Acting Mayor Bob Karwin referred to Merritt as “a shining beacon in the community. Your big smile and your constant positive essence are always noticed.”
