Coroner attempting to ID deceased woman found by Highway 74

The Coroner’s office is examining the body of a deceased female to confirm her identity after the body was found by the side of the road on Highway 74 east of Steinhoff Avenue in Homeland Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The body was located by a pedestrian who called the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office at about 9:39 a.m. The case was turned over to the California Highway Patrol. It is unknown whether the person was struck by a vehicle or died by other means, said CHP Office Jesus Garcia.

Based on the initial information, it appears the body had been there for a few days, Garcia said.
