Four Menifee residents have pulled nomination papers so far to run for City Council seats in the Nov. 3 election.
This year, District 2 (southwest Menifee) and District 4 (northeast Menifee) council seats are up for election. The council seats for District 1, District 3, and mayor will next be up for election in 2028. Here is the map that shows what areas the various districts cover.
Two candidates have applied to run for the District 2 seat so far. The application period ends Aug. 7. Candidates must submit the required number of signatures and be certified by Aug. 7.
Ben Diederich, the District 2 incumbent, has served on the council since 2024, when he was appointed by the council to fill the District 2 seat of Ricky Estrada when Estrada won the mayor’s seat. Previously, Diederich served six years on the Planning Commission.
The other applicant for District 2 is Laz Peterson. He has served on the Parks, Recreation, and Trails Commission since he was appointed by Estrada. He was also one of the applicants for Estrada’s vacated District 2 seat in 2024, when the council selected Diederich.
In District 4, there are two applicants so far for the seat being vacated by Dean Deines, who has termed out. Both are newcomers to the political scene. They are Frank Sandoval and Janet Ringleman.
