A fire that reportedly started when a palm tree fell onto a power line burned part of one residence and damaged neighboring structures in Quail Valley Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 2:47 p.m. in the 23600 block of Cassandra Drive, according to CAL FIRE Riverside. It was reported as a vegetation fire which eventually covered almost two acres. Localized evacuations and a Shelter in Place order were established for Cassandra Drive, Clara Place, and Lodge Drive.

Forward progress was stopped about 2:47 p.m. and the structure fire, described an attic fire, was contained. Three additional residential structures sustained damage, as well as one vehicle and a shed, according to fire officials.

No injuries were reported. The fire was declared 100 percent contained by 8 p.m. Evacuations were lifted and roads that had been closed in the area were re-opened by that time. Six structures were without power Wednesday night.

Two witnesses posted on the Menifee 24/7 Facebook page that a palm tree falling on a power line caused the fire. CAL FIRE has not given any details about the cause of the fire.
