Planning Commission approves Prime Self-Storage expansion

The Menifee Planning Commission approved plans to expand the Prime Self-Storage facility at the corner of Normandy and Berea roads at a June 10 meeting.

The project will add a new three-story, 69,266-square-foot climate-controlled storage building to the existing facility, replacing a portion of the site’s RV storage area. Once completed, the facility will contain more than 186,000 square feet of storage space.

Pamela Vickers, architect for Prime Self-Storage, said the building was designed to blend with the existing facility and surrounding area despite its larger size.

“We decided to make the look of the building like the very first office building because everything else in that area that’s previously built is a single story,” Vickers said. “We know we’re going to have high visibility, so we wanted to make it look like part of the neighborhood.”

Planning Commissioner Randy Madrid voiced support for the project before the commission voted to approve it.

“This place is almost a historical landmark for Menifee. It’s been there forever,” Madrid said. “If they’re going to expand, there’s a huge demand and they’re going to serve our residents with it.”

The new building will include storage units ranging from 50 to 600 square feet, elevator access to all floors and additional loading and unloading spaces for customers.
