Menifee residents interested in running for the City Council received an overview of the election process during the city’s candidate forum Thursday.
Hosted by Menifee City Clerk and Local Elections Official Stephanie Roseen, the informational workshop walked attendees through the requirements, deadlines and paperwork for residents interested in seeking election to the City Council in November.
This year’s General Municipal Election will be held Nov. 3 and includes City Council Districts 2 and 4. To qualify, candidates must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old, registered voters and residents of the district they wish to represent.
The nomination period will run from July 13 through Aug. 7 at 5 p.m. Candidates are encouraged to schedule appointments with the City Clerk’s Office to obtain and submit nomination paperwork before the deadline.
During the presentation, Roseen reviewed campaign finance requirements, required Fair Political Practices Commission forms, and nomination documents that candidates may need to complete, depending on their campaign activity.
Candidates may also choose to submit an optional 200-word candidate statement for the county voter information guide. The statement requires a deposit to cover publication costs.
The workshop also included an overview of the City Council’s responsibilities, meeting schedule and Menifee’s council-manager form of government.
