It was the “Maduro and Gregory-Alford” show Saturday night at Diamond Stadium as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes shut out the Lake Elsinore Storm, 5-0.
Quakes shortstop Kendrey Maduro and pitcher Trey Gregory-Alford were the keys to success for Rancho as they took game 5 of the six-game opening week series in Lake Elsinore. Maduro smacked 2 opposite-field home runs and finished with 3 hits, while starter Gregory-Alford pitched 5 scoreless innings and struck out 7 Storm batters in the win.
For Lake Elsinore, its offense simply could not get started all night. All told, only two Storm runners reached third base in the game while Storm batters hit into three inning-ending double plays.
On the bright side, center fielder Ryan Wideman had 2 hits, including a triple in the fifth inning that electrified the crowd. Shortstop Jorge Quintana also had 2 hits.
With the loss, the Storm is now 3-5 on the season and hope to split the six-game series today with a win. The Quakes improved their record to 6-2.
The series concludes at Diamond Stadium this afternoon at 2:05 pm. For tickets, visit tickets@stormbaseball.com or visit the Diamond Stadium Box Office prior to the game. The Box Office opens 3 hours before the game.
