Rose Rhoads honored as Menifee’s Citizen of the Month

Rose Rhoads, a longtime Menifee resident who has devoted years paying tribute to veterans, was honored by the City Council last week as Menifee’s Citizen of the Month.

Rhoads was one of the creators of the Sun City Quilting Club in 2005. In 2007, they learned about the Quilts of Valor group, in which individuals or groups create quilts to send to active and retired military personnel. She has also made more than 1,000 quilts for children through the Riverside County Trauma Centers and Ronald McDonald House, in connection with CAL FIRE.

“Pat Kirby and I started the club, and we were fortunate to have such a wonderful facility as the Sun City Civic Association to meet,” Rhoads said. “We were just looking for a place to socialize and learn from each other as we made the quilts.”

Rhoads and her group have been responsible for many presentations of quilts to local veterans, as well as gifting them to active military.

“What comfort this gives to those who were touched by war,” said council member Dan Temple.

“Your organization is exactly what Menifee embodies,” said Acting Mayor Bob Karwin.
