Menifee 24/7 is pleased to honor Athletes of the Month for January at Heritage High School. Honorees were selected by the coaches of their respective sports and were recognized with a presentation of certificates and photo opportunity on campus.
Anastacia Martinez was a key player in January for the Patriots girls soccer team. They tied and won their last two matches. Martinez scored the tying goal against Canyon Springs and led the defense in a hard-fought win against Poly.
Izabella Duarte was consistently a leader for the girls basketball team. She averaged 18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals per game in January.
Miguel Perez is a captain for the boys soccer team. He is being honored for his hard work and dedication throughout the season.
“He has been a key player in the defense and a standout individual who leads the team through victories and remaining supportive of his teammates, even when the outcome was not the desired, said coach William Zuaso.
Chelsea Briones is being honored from the girls wrestling team.
“I chose Chelsea because she is such a hard-working young lady who never backs down in the face of a challenge,” said her coach. “This is her second year on the team, and the growth she’s had both as a wrestler and person has been truly phenomenal.”
Abigale (Abby) Downs is being honored to represent the Patriots girls water polo team.
“Abby has truly earned this recognition through her hard work and dedication,” said coach Lucky Stephenson. “As a freshman, she has not only secured a spot on the varsity team but has stepped into a starting role, an impressive accomplishment at any level. Abby’s tenacity, determination, and competitive drive have played a significant role in helping our team advance to CIF this season. We are incredibly proud of her contributions and excited about her bright future ahead.”
