The wrestling program at Heritage High School was recently honored by the CIF State office as one of two California Army National Guard February Teams of the Month.
High school teams can be nominated through a special program conducted by the Army National Guard recruiting office. The award recognizes two teams each month for their achievements on the field, in the classroom, and in their communities. The Pasadena High School girls basketball team was also honored this month.
“Consistent with the CIF’s commitment to developing student-athletes of character, selections will be based on the National Guard’s core values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage,” according to the National Guard’s website.
Honorees receive a Team of the Month plaque and a $150 American Express gift card.
The Patriots boys wrestling team placed second in the CIF dual meet championships on Feb. 5. At the Inland Valley League finals on Feb. 7, the boys and girls teams combined to send 19 wrestlers to the CIF individual championships – a school record.
