One person dies in solo-vehicle crash, fire on Scott Road

One person died in a solo-vehicle collision early Sunday morning on Scott Road, police said.

Menifee Police Department officers responded to the call regarding a vehicles that crashed into a streetlight pole near Scott Road and Lindenberger Road about 12:26 a.m., according to a news release. The caller stated the car was on fire. Officers arrived to find a Mercedes Benz fully engulfed in flames.

A witness stated that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Scott Road approaching Lindenberger when it drifted to the south side of the road and collided with a light pole. The vehicle immediately caught fire. The witness did not see anyone exit the vehicle.

Arriving CAL FIRE crews needed several minutes to extinguish the flames because of the in the all-electric vehicle. Once the fire was extinguished, officers observed a solo occupant deceased in the driver’s seat.

The deceased has not yet been identified and contributing factors to the collision are not known at this time. A portion of Scott Road was closed for several hours during the investigation.
