A Menifee man suffered severe burns when his car caught fire during a solo-vehicle collision Sunday, authorities said.
The incident occurred at 12:06 a.m. at the intersection of McCall Boulevard and Menifee Road, according to a Menifee Police Department news release. Officers arrived to find a BMW sedan fully engulfed in flames. The driver had been removed from the vehicle.
The driver, a 20-year-old male from Menifee, was removed from the vehicle by witnesses and had sustained major burns to parts of his body. He was transported for treatment of his injuries and was listed in stable condition Sunday night.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the BMW was traveling westbound on McCall Boulevard and struck the center median. The vehicle crossed over the median and hit the south curb, colliding with a tree and catching fire. Investigators believe alcohol may have contributed to the collision, in addition to wet pavement caused by rain.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Officer Harper at 951-723-1567 or 951-723-1500.
