The women, headed by longtime volunteer Maryann Hillery of Menifee, organized a Chili Cook-Off Nov. 1 at Canyon Lake Country Club. Proceeds went to support the Regiment’s Special Olympics event, which will take place in February. For five days, athletes from across the country will compete in running, swimming, powerlifting, and biking.

Acting Menifee Mayor Bob Karwin and Canyon Lake Mayor Mark Terry judged the chili during the cook-off. Afterward, 5 gallons of chili were given to the Marines at Camp Pendleton.

Hillery said she has been supporting Wounded Warriors since 2007. She and her friends are now making chocolate-covered pretzels and marshmallows for the regiment’s Christmas event.
