Menifee 24/7 Voter Guide: Romoland School District

Romoland School District Area 1

Marvin Jeglin

Special Education Teacher

My name is Marvin Jeglin and I am running for Romoland School District Trustee Area 1 to ensure every child in our community receives a premier, safe, and supportive public education. As a parent of two children currently enrolled in the district and a Special Education Teacher, I bring both a personal investment and practical oversight to our schools. I am currently endorsed by both the Romoland Teachers Association and the Classified School Employee Association for Romoland School District.

My top priorities are expanding classroom academic resources, strengthening mental health support, and maintaining absolute fiscal transparency. I believe we must bridge the gap between our classrooms and our community by actively listening to parents and supporting our dedicated educators. With your vote, I will work tirelessly to focus on student success, enrichment opportunities, and foster a collaborative environment where all children can thrive. I would be honored to earn your vote on Election Day.

Romoland is more than the community where I live. It is where I have built relationships, served families, watched children grow, and witnessed generations of students become parents themselves.

After 20 years of working in public education and four years serving on the Romoland School District Board of Trustees, I have learned that some of the most meaningful moments of service happen in conversations with families, when someone reaches out for help, or when a former student tells me they remember the difference I made in their life. Those moments remind me why I chose to serve and why I hope to continue.

Some of the students I once worked with are now parents themselves. I have had former students tell me something that truly touched my heart: They registered to vote because they wanted to vote for me. They remember how I cared for them as children, and now, years later, they trust me to look out for their own children. I cannot begin to describe what that means to me.

Long before I became a school board member, I worked directly with students, encouraged them, believed in them, and cared about their future. That commitment continues today through my work at Heritage High School, where I remain connected to the everyday experiences of students, families, and staff. I don’t just see education through the lens of a board member; I experience it first-hand every day.

To know that the relationships and trust I built with students years ago have carried into the next generation is one of the greatest honors of my life and a reminder of the responsibility that comes with serving our community. That is the heart of why I serve. For nearly 30 years, Romoland has been my home. I have watched our community grow, and I have had the privilege of serving its families in different capacities throughout my life. My commitment to this community did not begin when I was elected to the school board, and it certainly does not end when a board meeting is over.

Throughout my four years as a trustee, I have made it a priority to remain accessible to the people I represent. Parents and staff have reached out through phone calls, emails, and personal conversations, and I have always made an effort to respond. I have met with families and employees numerous times, whether to listen, help them understand a situation, or navigate their concerns. Serving on the Board has also meant making difficult decisions. From curriculum approvals and district policies to sensitive student matters, I understand that our decisions can have lasting effects on children and their families.

I am not afraid to ask questions, challenge assumptions, or request additional information before making a decision. A trustee’s responsibility is not simply to agree with what is presented, but to thoughtfully evaluate what is best for students while remaining accountable to the community.

I have taken that responsibility seriously by continuing to educate and prepare myself. I have served as a regional Delegate for the California School Boards Association (CSBA) and completed its Masters in Governance program. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of governance, policies, and responsible decision-making.

I am proud of our district’s progress, including expanding educational opportunities through Dual Language Immersion. But there is more work ahead. As our community grows, we must continue advocating for strong academic programs, appropriate resources, safe learning environments, and opportunities that meet the diverse needs of our students.

As I seek reelection, I do so with the same heart that led me to education 20 years ago. I have never forgotten that behind every policy, program, and decision is a child whose future matters. When I think about those former students who are now parents, I am reminded of something especially meaningful. Years ago, I had the privilege of caring for them as children. Today, they are entrusting me with something even more precious: the future of their own children.

That trust is not something I could ever take for granted. It is earned through years of showing up, listening, caring, and serving. I am not seeking reelection for a title. I am seeking the opportunity to continue serving a community I love, advocating for children I believe in, and honoring the trust that families have placed in me across generations. It would be an honor to continue serving the Romoland School District community for another four years.

Orell Colbert

Lisa Tangler

Retired Educator

A vote for Lisa Tangler, Romoland School Board, Area 3 is a vote for student first education.  Student achievement, safety and social/emotional well being is paramount.  Every decision the Board should make should be based on “Is it good for our kids?”

As a long-time former educator in Riverside County, I have seen this question often get lost in the bureaucracy of public education. All students deserve clean, safe schools with staff, administrators and Board that never lose sight of that goal.  Fiscal decisions should be based on this, staffing decisions should be based on this, and the ability of students and teachers to learn and teach should be based on this.

If elected, one of my areas of focus will be the inclusion of special education students and how best to meet their needs while also protecting the educational needs of general education students. Attracting and keeping qualified teachers and paraprofessionals that can support inclusive practices is absolutely necessary for the success of all students and is a student first educational practice. Teacher support and retention is vital to student success.

A vote for Lisa Tangler is a vote for improving community collaboration and support with parents and key community members. We all have an equal voice in putting students first in every district decision made regarding our children in our schools. A vote for Lisa Tangler is a vote for a candidate who has many years of educational experience as both a teacher and guidance counselor and as a 25-year resident of our community  bringing a different perspective to Board actions and policies.

A vote for Lisa Tangler will ensure transparent practices and communication. A vote for Lisa Tangler will bring our schools a Board member who is active and visible at our schools and actively listening to the successes and challenges schools face.  If elected, I look forward to serving our students, parents and community while ensuring that every decision made puts students first. Thank you.

Jack Rendell

Retired business owner

My theme is “A New Perspective for Romoland Schools.” I am also proud to say that I was endorsed by the Romoland Teachers Association and CSEA Chapter 499.

I am running for Romoland School District Board of Trustees, Trustee Area 5, to bring a different perspective grounded in business experience, practical problem solving, and a commitment to transparency, integrity, and support.

Throughout this campaign, I have spoken with families, teachers, staff, and community members. Parents have emphasized school safety and communication, reinforcing my commitment to making both priorities if elected. I will also advocate for teachers and classified staff to feel supported, valued, and heard. When they have the support they need, they are better equipped to help students succeed.

I am a retired business owner with more than 20 years of experience in real estate, more than 15 years as a business owner, and a degree in Electronics Engineering. My experience has taught me to examine details, manage budgets, and consider the long-term consequences of decisions.

My wife has been a teacher for more than 20 years. Throughout her career, I have gotten to know many teachers and staff members and developed a deep respect for their work. I have seen the preparation, patience, and dedication teaching requires, including the work that continues long after students leave the classroom.

Responsible spending and planning for growth

As our community grows, decisions about facilities, staffing, and educational programs will shape the district for years to come. We must address immediate needs while understanding future financial commitments.

Taxpayer dollars deserve careful consideration. I will closely evaluate spending proposals and any proposed bond extensions, including their purpose, total cost, and long-term impact on taxpayers.

Before voting on significant financial commitments, I will ask: Why is this needed? What alternatives were considered? What will it cost over time? How will it benefit students?

I will examine proposals, question assumptions, and review results, balancing student needs with responsible stewardship of public funds.

School safety and communication with families

Parents deserve confidence that their children’s safety is a district priority. I will support regular reviews of safety procedures, emergency preparedness, and how concerns are reported and addressed when these matters come before the board. This includes attention to bullying and an environment where students feel comfortable asking for help.

Families need timely, clear information and should know whom to contact when concerns arise. As a trustee, I will listen, help direct concerns to appropriate district staff, and bring broader policy issues to the board for consideration. I will respect staff’s responsibility to address individual concerns while supporting accountability and effective communication.

A clear focus on student success

Every student deserves the opportunity to build a strong academic foundation. When proposals come before the board, I will carefully review efforts to identify learning needs early, strengthen student support, and evaluate whether district programs are achieving their goals.

Teachers and classified staff bring first-hand knowledge that can help the board understand where resources are needed and which changes would make the greatest difference. Parents also deserve meaningful opportunities to contribute to their children’s education.

Transparency and accountability

If elected, I will work collaboratively with parents, teachers, staff, and fellow board members to support student success, transparency, fiscal responsibility, and open communication. Every decision should reflect the best interests of our students and community.

I will carefully review each matter before voting, explain my reasoning, and remain open to questions and feedback.

Community support that means a great deal

I am grateful to the teachers, classified staff, and volunteers who have supported my campaign throughout Trustee Area 5. They have participated in neighborhood walks and back-to-school nights, helped with signs, and supported social media posts. Their generosity and the welcome we have received from neighbors mean a great deal to me.

I want community members, teachers, and staff to feel they have a voice. I will encourage greater participation in board meetings so residents can learn firsthand about district decisions, share concerns, and give the board an opportunity to listen.

My commitment is to remain accessible, make informed decisions, and work with fellow board members to keep students at the center of our work.

If you live in Romoland School District Trustee Area 5, I respectfully ask for your vote for Jack Rendell.
