Ballot statements are out. Please read them. My experience and accomplishments for the Menifee community are tangible. My “Voice” for Menifee understand how school boards function and how (LCFF/LCAP) money is allocated to all of the sites in Menifee.

Showing up is important. My “Voice” for Menifee has been at every board meeting the past four years advocating for Paloma Valley HS, Liberty HS, and Heritage HS, all of which serve the Menifee Community.

Prior to my election victory in 2022, I actually attended PUHSD board meetings and understood some of the issues PUHSD was facing. I still have some unfinished business that I/we as a board need to finish and new goals and ideas that we need to accomplish in my next term. We have some great ideas and plans in the near future for the Menifee Community within the PUHSD. Plans include enhancing our already made partnerships with MSJC, CSUSB, and CSUSM. These partnerships make pursuing higher education more affordable and at a minimal cost.

When you fill out your Ballot remember this. I am endorsed by:

Sheriff Chad Bianco
DA Mike Hestrin
Congressman Ken Calvert
State Senator Brian Jones
Assemblywoman Kate Sanchez
Assemblywoman Natasha Johnson
Assemblywoman Leticia Castillo
Sonja Shaw (CVUSD Board President and Candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction)
Menifee Mayor Ricky Estrada
AG Candidate Michael Gates
Reform California
412 Church Temecula

During the past four years, I have built a strong network of support with other school board trustees throughout the state who are like minded and have similar values. The list is too large to add everyone’s name here, but it just about covers every part of California.

When you fill in/out your ballot, I humbly ask for your vote of support to continue the work that I have started at PUHSD.

Kevin Johansen

Math teacher

Our students and our kids should be the center of everything we do. Great schools matter. Menifee matters. We need a better voice for Menifee in our Perris-run high schools. Our students deserve better. Our community deserves better. We have everything we need to have fantastic high schools, but our VOICE — a Menifee voice — is missing.

My wife and I have called Menifee home for more than 26 years. It has been a great place to raise our family of five children, and we’ve truly grown to love our city. Our kids have gone to public schools. One of the things that drew us to Menifee, as it did for many others, are the great schools. Over the last several years, I have seen the incredible strides our K-8 district has made; however, over that same time period, our high schools have not followed suit.

My decision to run for the Perris UHSD board has been fueled by a continuous and unending string of poor leadership, shady decision-making, and a culture that does not seem to prioritize student need. Over the course of the last four years, we’ve seen this board demonstrate preferential hiring practices that seem to be based more on personal relationships than on ensuring the best person for the job is hired. These hirings have been well documented and are unethical at best.

As a special education teacher of 17 years, I have seen first-hand how strong positive leadership with a clear vision can bring an entire district up. If elected, I will fight to make sure our students are always at the center of what we do. I will fight to make sure we are doing everything in our power to attract, hire, and retain the most qualified and strongest leadership available to guide this district… because that is what is best for our students. The work environment gets better for everyone as culture and climate improve — and as culture and climate improve, the student experience improves.

I recognize that trust between the community and the high school district has been eroding for years, and I will fight to ensure that rebuilding that trust is a top priority for district leadership. I am not a politician and I’m not interested in advancing a political career. I am running because I know Menifee deserves better than what we are currently getting from Perris UHSD.

I have received endorsements from:

Dr. Jonathan Greenberg – Former Superintendant of Perris UHSD
Bob O’Donnell – Community Leader
Kyle Root – Community Leader
Vicki Carpenter – Community Leader
Lesa Sobek – Former Menifee City Councilmember
Dr. Trenton Hansen – School Administrator
Morgan Singleton – Community Leader
Dan Temple – Menifee City Councilmember

I know that unless we change our current course of action, we will continue to be provided with the same lip-service and rhetoric that we’ve all become so accustomed to from Perris UHSD. Let’s choose to do something about it. When it comes time to cast your vote, please choose Kevin Johansen for Perris Union High School District school board, Trustee Area 1 —  A voice for Menifee on the Perris School Board.
