With his first leap Saturday in the triple jump at the CIF Masters meet, Paloma Valley’s Arthur Stringer qualified for the CIF State meet next weekend. His mark of 47-4 1/2 far exceeded the 46-4 3/4 needed to qualify as an at-large athlete, no matter what place he finishes in today.
Â
As it turned out, that mark was good enough to earn him first place. He goes to the State meet as Paloma Valley’s first-ever Masters champion.

“Arthur’s work ethic has always been unmatched,” said his coach, Juan Merida. “I am very proud of how he has matured this season. He has always stayed positive and trusted the jump coach and me all season when we have had to hold him back some to save his legs. He trusted the process laid out for him and worked through his injury.”
