After starting the season with four straight losses, the Liberty High School baseball team has now won three straight – all league games against Menifee rival schools.
After beating Heritage twice last week, the Bison’s most recent victory came by a 10-6 score over Paloma Valley on Wednesday. Xavier Mazariegos had 2 hits, including an RBI double, and scored 2 runs. Matthew Schaeffer went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Alex Artega had 3 RBIs and Bandon Ansell had 2.
Paloma Valley is 5-6 overall. Both teams are now 3-2 in the Ivy League. For the Wildcats, Ryan Christman went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Wyatt Smith went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Bolt Smearer went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
In softball, Liberty improved its record to 9-2 with a 13-6 nonleague win over Hillcrest. The Bison broke open a tight game with 9 runs in the sixth inning.
Lily Mathews went 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Five other players had 2 hits: Madison Tronti, Aalayah McCall, Lissette Quinones, Yasmine Lopez, and Jolie Tompkins. Brooklyn Rackstraw pitched the whole game, allowing 7 hits and striking out 4.
The Paloma Valley softball team is now 12-2 after a 16-0 win over Heritage. The Wildcats led 10-0 by the second inning in a game that lasted only five innings.
Lynda Guerra went 3 for 3 with a home run and 3 runs scored. Faith Joseph hit a 3-run home run. Brooke Bobbette and Kennedi McGee also hit home runs.
