Prep roundup: Liberty baseball team scores big in 16-2 win over Heritage

Liberty High’s baseball team broke open a close game in the middle innings Wednesday on the way to a 16-2 win over Heritage in an Ivy League game.

It was the first win in five games for the Bison, who scored six runs in fourth inning and five in the fifth. Alex Arteaga had 2 hits, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. Brandon Ansell went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored. Dylan Oltjenbruns went 2 for 3 with 2 runs. Colton Pike had 4 RBIs with a triple.

Three pitchers combined on a 7-hitter for the Bison. They play Heritage again at home on Friday.

Heritage got 2 hits, including a triple, from Wade Johnson.

In another Ivy League game, Paloma Valley improved its overall record to 4-5 (2-1 in league) with a 7-3 victory over Moreno Valley. Clinton Glass went 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Christian Stephens drove in 2 runs. Three pitchers combined on a 2-hitter.

In softball, Paloma Valley improved its record to 10-2 with a 5-3 win over Santiago. Kayle McGee went 3 for 4 with a double. Laura Liera was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Lynda Guerra was 2 for 3 with a home run. Kaydence Koepsell pitched the first 5.1 innings for the victory.

In boys volleyball, Paloma Valley scored a 3-2 victory over Rancho Verde. The Wildcats won 15-7 in the decisive fifth set.

James Olweny had 14 kills, while Jayden Estrella and Jhomar Yanga had 11 each. Timo Lam Yuen had 7 blocks and Gaebriel Pattawi had 15 digs. Paloma is 13-3 overall.

The Heritage volleyball team improved its overall record to 10-7 (2-0 I league) with a 3-0 win over Lakeside. Carmelo Williams had 15 kills and Kaiden Kaye had 11.
