Riverside Transit Agency is proposing a new bus route that would connect Sun City, Menifee and Mt. San Jacinto College as part of a plan looking at how transit service could change over the next 10 years.
The proposed Route 62, called the Menifee-Sun City Circulator, would operate every 60 minutes, seven days a week and serve several destinations in Menifee, including Menifee Global Medical Center, Sun City Library and Mt. San Jacinto College.
The new route would replace Route 61 service along Murrieta Road and McCall Boulevard between MSJC, Sun City Library and Halter Hillside Apartments.
A map released by RTA shows the proposed route traveling along portions of McCall Boulevard, Newport Road, Evans Road and La Piedra Road. The route would also travel through the Haun Road and Antelope Road area near Countryside Marketplace before reaching the MSJC area.
The proposed route is part of RTA’s Our Vision Forward project, an analysis looking at how the agency’s services could grow over the next 10 years to meet increasing demand.
Over the past year, RTA has studied the performance of its current routes, travel patterns and feedback from current and potential riders to develop proposed changes.
The project is now in its third phase, during which RTA is asking residents to review the draft recommendations and provide feedback. The proposed changes have not been approved.
Residents can submit feedback through an online survey through Oct. 16. RTA will also hold three virtual community meetings where residents can review the proposed changes, ask questions and provide feedback.
The meetings are scheduled for Sept. 30 at 6 p.m., Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. and Oct. 6 at noon.
After the public feedback period, RTA plans to develop a final service plan this fall that incorporates feedback on the draft recommendations.
The final plan is expected to go before the RTA Board of Directors for adoption in December. If approved, initial service changes could take effect as soon as May 2027, although RTA notes the anticipated timeline is subject to change.
Residents can view the proposed changes, take the survey and find information about the upcoming meetings on the Our Vision Forward project website.
