Brooks joined the Menifee Police Department when it launched in 2020 and became one of the department’s inaugural K-9 handlers with Dino.

“We will be forever grateful for starting our department, the service you provided,” Councilman Ben Diederich said. “Your resume of your lifetime is unparalleled, and we just truly are grateful to you for a lifetime of service that you’ve given.”

Before joining Menifee, Brooks served 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired in 1998. He began his law enforcement career with the San Diego Police Department in 2000 and joined the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 2006. Brooks spent 14 years with the Sheriff’s Department, where he worked as a patrol deputy, K-9 handler and in community services.

Between his military and law enforcement careers, Brooks has spent more than 46 years in public service.

Brooks and Dino have been involved in numerous suspect apprehensions and critical incidents. Sgt. Matt Bloch said the pair helped locate and apprehend a murder suspect who was attempting to evade law enforcement.

Brooks has also served as an explorer advisor, defensive tactics instructor, firearms instructor and member of the department’s peer support team.

Mayor Pro Tem Bob Karwin also credited Brooks and Dino for their contributions to public safety in Menifee.

“It’s for people like you that we become one of the safest cities in America,” he said. “So thank you very much for your service and dedication to this city.”

Dino was also presented with a certificate recognizing his six years of service.

“His loyalty, skill and unwavering dedication have made a lasting contribution to the protection and the safety of our community,” Councilman Dan Temple read from the certificate.
