The Menifee Union School District took two steps Tuesday to prepare for future growth, approving an architectural services agreement for a new elementary school and expanding its preschool program.
The district’s updated Facilities Master Plan projects enrollment to increase from over 10,100 students to more than 15,400 students over the next five years. The plan identifies the need for three new elementary schools and one new middle school to accommodate that projected growth.Â
The board approved an architectural services agreement with DLR Group, Inc. for Menifee Elementary School No. 16, expected to open in 2030. Trustee Bob O’Donnell said he was pleased to see DLR Group return for the project, noting the firm previously worked on Sally Buselt Elementary School and Menifee Valley Middle School.Â
“I thought they did a good job for us, so we’re bringing them back to help us out again,” O’Donnell said.Â
The board also approved two permit teacher positions to support the expansion of the California State Preschool Program. According to the agenda report, the positions will support four daily instructional sessions and expand access to early childhood education. The positions are funded through the California State Preschool Program Grant.
Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Root said the staffing will expand access to preschool for local families.
“We’re going to be able to open two preschool classrooms, which is double session, so it’s about 96 children in our community who will be able to access California State Preschool up at Freedom Crest,” Root said. “We’ve always had it only over here at the Menifee Preschool. We will have a whole other side of town that will have access to preschool.”
