Quail Valley residents are one step closer to having their first city-maintained park after the Menifee City Council accepted a $750,000 grant June 3 to help fund construction of the future Quail Valley Nature Park.
The funding comes from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The city will provide a matching $750,000 contribution from previously allocated funds.
The planned 10.45-acre nature-themed community park was identified as a priority during the 2023 Menifee Parks Master Plan, said City of Menifee Community Services Director Mariana Mitchell.
“This is a very exciting project for us,” Mitchell said. “Quail Valley, as an underserved community, currently doesn’t have park land within walking distance of residents within the community.”
The project became possible after the Canyon Heights Homeowners Association donated approximately 10 acres of underutilized land to the city. The property, which had previously served as park space but was no longer maintained, was transferred to city ownership in 2025.
According to Mitchell, the donation helps the city work toward its goal of providing five acres of parkland for every 1,000 residents.
Planned amenities include decomposed granite walking trails, an interpretive play trail and main playground area, a multipurpose grass field, exercise stations, and native landscaping designed to attract butterflies and other pollinators.
“It is a part of the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Program, which is intended to preserve outdoor nature spaces, which is why this park is very nature-themed and nature-oriented,” Mitchell said.
The city expects to complete the design phase, bid the project, and award a construction contract later this year. It plans to complete construction and open the park to the public in late 2027.
Mayor Ricky Estrada said he is looking forward to seeing the project completed.
“I look forward to the grand opening,” Estrada said. “I know a lot of residents are going to be very excited.”
