MUSD approves budget, reports attendance improvements

The Menifee Union School District Board adopted a $223.4 million budget and approved its 2026-27 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) during a June 16 meeting, with district documents highlighting improvements in student attendance over the past two years.

According to the plan, districtwide chronic absenteeism decreased from over 24 percent in fall 2023 to under 12 percent in fall 2025. Positive attendance rates also increased from 92 percent to 95 percent.

Several student groups saw similar improvements. Chronic absenteeism among English learners decreased from 26 percent to 10 percent, while chronic absenteeism among students with disabilities dropped from 32 percent to just under 18 percent.

The LCAP also highlights improvements in student engagement and school culture. Middle school student engagement increased from 21 percent to 30 percent, and survey results showed improved perceptions of school safety and connectedness among students and families.

According to the LCAP, the district serves more than 12,600 students from preschool through eighth grade across 11 elementary schools, four middle schools, a K-8 school, a virtual academy and preschool programs.

The adopted budget and LCAP will take effect July 1 and guide district spending and priorities during the 2026-27 school year.
