The Menifee City Council has passed a resolution calling a General Municipal Election for Nov. 3 to select council members for Districts 2 and 4.
District 2 encompasses the southwest portion of Menifee. District 4 is the northeast portion, including the Heritage Lake community. A map of the districts can be found on the City of Menifee website at this link. Only residents living in those districts may vote for candidates in their district.
City Council district representatives serve a four-year term. District 1 (Bob Karwin), District 3 (Dan Temple), and the position of mayor (Ricky Estrada) will be up for election in 2028.
Estrada would be eligible to run for re-election as mayor in 2028. Temple would be eligible to run again in District 3. Karwin will be termed out as a District 1 representative in 2028 but could run for mayor because it is a separate council position.
For this year’s election, District 4 representative Dean Deines has termed out, but he could run for mayor in 2028. Applications to fill the District 4 position will be accepted from July 13 to Aug. 7. In January 2025, District 2 representative Ben Diederich was appointed by the City Council to fill the vacancy created when Estrada was elected mayor. Diederich is expected to run for a full term in that district. Other candidates for that position must apply between July 13 and Aug. 7.
Per City policy approved at the June 3 City Council meeting, candidates have the right to submit a candidate statement of no more than 200 words and must do so at the time of application.
