CIF champion Paloma Valley wrestling team honored by City Council

The Paloma Valley High School boys wrestling team, which won the first CIF Southern Section boys team title in school history in February, was honored last week by the Menifee City Council.

The Wildcats won the CIF-SS Eastern Division title with 260 points, far outdistancing second-place Canyon Springs (206). Anthony Saldana (132 pounds) and Izaac Esparza (175) won individual titles for the Wildcats, who have built a very successful program under coach Luis Robles.

Under Robles, the boys team was runner-up four consecutive times, then fifth last year before winning it all this season.

“Congratulations on your hard work and dedication,” Mayor Pro Team Bob Karwin said. “You displayed discipline, confidence and resilience.”

“This was a historic year,” said Robles, surrounded by team members. “They won the Riverside County Tournament, too. They did a great job all year long.”
