Drivers passing by noticed that the front planter of the Antelope-Menifee Rural Center on Haun Road could use a little love. That love came from Reese Stump, a student at Santa Rosa Academy charter school in Menifee who was looking for a community service project to fulfill her graduation requirements.

A few of the yucca plants that had been placed about five years ago by a Boy Scout earning his Eagle merit badge had begun to outgrow their containers. A few others had expired. So, Reese grabbed some gloves and began her work on a Saturday morning, pulling the sword-like plants out by hand.

Her next step was a visit to Louie’s Nursery, which donated new succulents to be placed in the planter. Reese’s father Steve Stump, who serves on the Rural Center board, arranged to have Cameron Dennison at BullDawgs haul away the old plants and debris.

“The newly upgraded planter looks very attractive, and we appreciate Reese for her hard work,” said Bill Zimmerman, AMRC board president.
