Liberty volleyball team wins 5 straight for tournament title

The boys volleyball team at Liberty High School had a huge weekend, winning all five matches in the Gold Bracket of the Indian Springs Tournament to take the championship.

“I’m incredibly proud of the way this group competed this weekend,” said coach Miguel Barajas. “5–0 and winning the Gold Bracket at the Indian Springs Tournament is a testament to the heart and commitment these guys showed all day. What impressed me most wasn’t just the wins, but the way players stepped into unfamiliar roles and embraced whatever the team needed in the moment. That kind of selflessness says a lot about who they are as competitors and teammates.”

The Bison’s statistical leaders include Ethan Ford (140 kills this season) and Joseph Bankston (137 kills). Alan Aidarkhanov leads in blocks with 36, followed by Mataio Mamea-Haroldson with 25. Damien Cabrera leads in digs with 258.

“Throughout the tournament, they fought for every single point,” Barajas said. “Whether we were ahead or in tight moments, the guys stayed locked in, trusted each other, and played with a lot of grit. You could see the ‘team first’ mindset from everyone on the court and on the bench. That collective effort is what made the difference for us.

“That said, while I’m proud of how they represented our program and the heart they showed, we know the road is just beginning. This group understands that tournaments like this are steps in the journey. Our focus now is getting back to work, continuing to grow, and making sure we’re improving every day as a team.”

The Bison return to action on Wednesday in a home match against Hillcrest at 5:30 p.m.
