Investigation into alcohol sales to a minor results in suspension of license

The public notice on a local restaurant that has raised questions in the community is the result of an enforcement by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

ABC announced that it suspended the license of BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse in the Countryside Marketplace in Menifee, prohibiting alcohol sales for 25 days. This action was taken on Feb. 17, ABC announced.

According to the report, the action came following an investigation by ABC and the Menifee Police Department of an incident on Nov. 20, 2023. The announcement states that a minor was served alcohol and was later involved in a crash resulting in “great bodily injury” to multiple individuals.”

“Restricting alcohol access for minors is critical to preventing incidents of this nature,” said ABC Director Paul Tupy. “Licensees must uphold their responsibility to serve lawfully and refrain from providing alcohol to underage individuals.”

A spokesperson for BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse released the following statement today:

“We take this situation, our responsibility to serve alcohol, and our guests’ and team members’ safety seriously. At the time of the incident, in November 2023, we conducted a thorough investigation and took immediate action. We’ve always followed industry best practices and continue to reinforce robust training on laws and policies to ensure proper procedures are consistently upheld when serving alcoholic beverages with a zero tolerance policy for any violation.”

The suspension is due to be lifted on March 14.
